year one :)

It's hard to believe that Justin and I have been married for a year.. Where has the time gone?? To me it still feels like we just got married! :)  For our anniversary we wanted to do something fun, semi inexpensive and low key. So on Friday I came home to find a clean home and flowers waiting for me! It was so nice knowing that I could relax after work and enjoy the night. So with that said we decided to order pizza and watched our weekly T.V. shows on DVR and called it a night. Justin and I are big movie and T.V. watchers so it was perfect. We haven't had a lazy night together in a long time so it was much needed!  I was also really needing a getaway but since Justin is still in school we couldn't do anything longer than the weekend. We thought a day trip to Idaho Falls would be a nice getaway and a nice change. I have never been up there so I was excited! We left Saturday afternoon and spent  the rest of the day shopping and went to dinner and came home late that night. We had such a fun time! The first year for us brought a wave of new experiences some good some bad. They say the first year of marriage is the hardest. In my opinion I think for us it was about the first six months. Marriage, for both of us, as well as others, (I'm sure) was/is an adjustment. Just learning how to live with someone else of the opposite sex is an adjustment. 

I always love the council to put your spouse/others first and by doing so your needs will be met.  I believe 100% that that is true. Even though Justin and I have an argument here or there  Everyday I am still incredibly grateful that Justin and I are married. I couldn't imagine being with anyone different. I fall a little bit more in love with him everyday, I am not sure how that can be because I love him so much but I do! He makes my weaknesses a little stronger and overall a better person. Eternity with my best friend could not be any better! I can not wait to see what year two brings for us!!

19) I love anything that has a fragrance, which was so annoying growing up because the rest of the women in the family (mom, aunt(s), grandma..) have such sensitive noses that I could never use anything, lotion, perfume, air-fresheners, NOTHING!

22) Cleaning is my thing, except my car-- that is pretty much always a mess

23) I love catchup and eat it on pretty much everything; fries, eggs, steak.. you know whatever! haha

keeping up with the Hyers

hello!! sorry it has been like ages since I have updated the blog-- please forgive...

Since the last time I blogged we have done LOTS of things and LOTS of things have happened!
It's amazing how fast time goes!! Justin and I have been almost married for a year, I still feel like it was last month! I absolutely love being married to my best friend! Everyday is an adventure and everyday I fall a little bit more in love than I did before. I'm just so grateful and blessed :)

I am still working for an oral surgeon in the Valley and in few months I will have been there a year. I have enjoyed working for an oral surgeon and have been grateful for a job that allows me to not work late at night or weekends, to be just a short drive from home, and provide a great paycheck for us. I still have days where I miss my old boss and co-workers terribly and long to be back working with them but working in an oral surgery has broaden my resume and my knowledge within the dental world.

Justin has been busy with school and can't wait to be finished with all the studying and the homework that is required for a biological engineer degree. Lately his time has mostly been focused on his senior project. Every senior engineer has to do  a project that reflects everything that have learned while in school and needs to be completed before they can graduate. Justin's group is designing a spinal implant and have worked really hard on the write up/ research part and will soon get to start production on the prototype. Justin and his group have to sign a non-discloser agreement with the company that is funding the project. Besides working on that project, Justin still finds time to work part time, tutor a few students, go hunting/shooting and spend time with me! How he does it I have no idea..

Since Justin is usually studying or doing homework on campus I have lots of time to myself. I have come to see how ADDICTING pintrest can actually be. However, I have pulled myself away from the screen and actually try a few things from that web site. I have loved some of the recipes I have made and will have to blog about  them next time.. But my most recent project was for my jewelry. I took one pinners idea and combined it with my own creativity TA-DA!

I bought this tray for .50 cents and a yard sale and took the back off it, painted and stained it, covered the back with fabric that i got on sale for $1.00,  put screen over fabric, (which was free) so that my earrings can hook through it and then staple everything back together and thats all there is to it.

For my necklace holder i just made pegs and drilled out holes then super glued the pegs in and there is my necklace holder :)

I have loved my jewelry holders!!

the new hyer home

Justin and I moved from Smithfield to Logan in the middle of July and we both quickly agreed that our "new" apartment felt like home. I've been decorating the apartment when I can but it's so hard to not just do it all at once but I have to remember (Justin mostly reminding me) that we have other bills and other pressing priorities than decorations. Out of all my  fabulous traits ;) ;) money management is not my strong point. But I think my husband and I can both agree that I have gotten totally better! Anyway, I have just been trying to do one room at a time and finally I feel like its coming together.  But we have loved our apartment & all the adventures that come with it. Justin has recently practice his plumbing skills when I put too many potato peels down the garbage disposal at once.. He was less than pleased with me... but I batted my long lashes and big green eyes and the anger left.. and now I think it's safe to say that now he laughs about it...

summer is just flying by...

Life for us I feel like has been so busy and I feel like I have no spare time! Since Memorial Weekend I have really felt like I have been just on the go! I started my new job at a oral surgeon's office which has been a HUGE change from pediatric dentistry but so far it has been exciting and I have learned a bunch. Even though Justin and I have been working we are trying to find time to enjoy the summer. And finally the weather has started to feel like summer so after work since it doesn't get dark until late we try and go hiking for about an hour or so. One weeknight we met up with Brian (Justin's buddy from high school) and started at the base of the trail and hiked until we hit snow! It was soooo beautiful and such a hard workout!!

 I also recently got to see my dad just after Fathers Day, he was flying back home to Virginia from a business trip but needed to drop some empty suitcases off to my brother Spencer. I have missed my  Dad and the rest of my family from back in Virginia a lot lately so I'm glad I was able to drive up to Idaho and spend time with him and my brother Spencer & his roommates. So we all went to Yellowstone for the day and looked around. I have never been so it was all so exciting and beautiful! I really can't wait to go back! I would love to go camping sometime soon!

 For Fourth of July weekend Spencer came down and hung out with us. We had a great time. On Saturday we went to see our Aunt Kristy and Uncle Boyce and their kids in Lehi area. We had fun swimming & BBQing with them! Those girls are growing up so fast! We also on the way home stopped and went to Crown Burger. Justin and I love that place. Anytime we go down that way we always stop in and eat til we are sick. Spencer has never been and said when he saw his food he said that, "Burgers will never be the same. Little did he realize how delicious Charlies ice cream would be later on.  I swear their milkshakes are out of this world!!  Then Monday we got up early and headed up to Lewiston for the annual parade. Then later we watched fireworks at Justin's grandparents with everyone. We invited Nic and Nichole and their baby to come watch fireworks with us too. It was so much fun! We have loved spending time with them and watching Mason just grow right up! We are grateful for their friendship and for the fact that we just always have a great time with them!

 

 

 

This month we are moving to our new apartment. I'm excited to move but not excited to pack everything up. I feel like it's all I have done. I packed up and moved out from living with my aunt and uncle in VA back in with my parents then packed up my car up to drive to Utah to now repack everything for our new apartment. But hopefully this will be the last time until Justin is done with school!!

I realized today how quickly time is just flying by and that before I know it fall semester will be starting soon and Justin's poor crazy work load will double and the leaves on the trees will be changing and the cold will once yet roll in... aghh... BUT for now cheers to the summer sun & tan skin :D

Memorial Day Weekend

So I'm behind in my posts but I have been way busy with things! BUT our Memorial Day weekend was such a blast! Spencer, my younger brother came down for the weekend from BYU-I and stayed with us. It was so great to have him come! He gets to put his mission papers in for a LDS mission soon so I have to soak up as much time as I possibly can since he will be gone for two years! 

Since Spencer came down from school we wanted to do something extra fun & something that he would enjoy doing so Justin thought squirrel hunting was the ticket. Spencer has never been squirrel hunting but he does like to shoot and hunt deer so why not try this.  Not only was he hooked but as was I! I would have never thought that I would but it was a lot of fun! I originally just planned on going along and watching with the other gals and just catch up on some reading and soak up some much needed sun but I ended up shooting too. I shot my first squirrel 110 yards away.  I didn't know who was more proud of me-- my husband or my brother.. haha what can I say... my Daddy taught me how to shoot well :D

So we had riot! & Spencer can't wait until Fourth of July weekend to go again. 

This might be the new "Hyer family tradition".

As much fun as we had that Saturday, I am mindful of the sacrifices made for freedom & those men and women who died  in our nation's service.  My heart goes out to all the countless families who gave a son or daughter to that cause. I think about all the countless people who are now free because of the many sacrifices that American soldiers have made throughout the years. I am grateful every day for the opportunities our great nation has to offer and appreciate all those who so bravely serve each and every day. THANK YOU for all your service :D

We had our friends Rachel and Jason come over a few Fridays ago for date night. We went to Firehouse-- (we love the pasta there it's delicious!) then we had Rach and Jas come over for a bonfire after to make smores :D Justin and I LOVE hanging out with them! They are so fun! We are going to miss them when they move to Ohio in July for dental school!
